The refined and elegant lamp combines the mythological image of Medusa the Gorgon with the symbolism of contemporary wartime experience.
In art, the image of Medusa is associated with a powerful mystical force — fatal to anyone who encounters it. Her strength is a weapon no one would ever wish to face.
In this work, the depiction of Medusa, crafted from forged iron and stylized as bronze, is both literally and metaphorically intertwined with a mortar shell. The shell serves as the lamp’s base and is entwined with bronze snakes — symbolizing different forms of power: mythological, otherworldly, and human, yet equally dangerous.
The central focus is the lampshade with an androgynous face, resembling a frozen mask with openings for the eyes and mouth. Its expression conveys a silent scream, blending surprise, fear, and sorrow. Snake-like hair frames the face, intensifying the emotional tension of the image.
The lampshade has a cylindrical base in the form of a structural metal grid that supports the bulb.
